One thing that I love about teaching secondary school is getting to know the students outside of the classroom. While these excursions can be exhausting and take me away from my family, I truly enjoy spending time with the students. I have gone on several Week Without Walls/Cultural Trips with grades 6, 9, 11, and 12. I have been an advisor for Elementary School and Middle School student council. Being an advisor required me to spend time after school and on weekends chaperoning various activities. These activities and trips have allowed me and the students to get to know each other on a personal level beyond what we could experience in a classroom setting. In addition to MS StuCo, I have volunteered at HS Student Council events, National Honor Society events, and have chaperoned Prom. I have also coached the Surabaya Intercultural School boys and girls MS and HS cross country teams. As yearbook advisor, I often stay after school to photograph various events and to support our students.
